Rapeseed Oil comes from the black seeds of the rapeseed plant, Brassica napus, the same Brassica family as broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower. The plant produces sunny, yellow flowers around springtime & as we look out over spectacular views of the countryside, you will see the golden fields brightening our beautiful landscapes. (Perhaps not so wonderful & welcomed by our hay fever sufferers!)
With so many oils available all the hype about Coconut Oil at the moment, we wanted to tell you why we choose to use Rapeseed oil.
Rapeseed Oil along with Linseed are the only oils grown and bottled in the UK. Being based in the UK, we feel strongly that we should support other UK based companies & products. Also there are no commercially grown crops in the UK which are GM.
Many people are now recognising, celebrating & promoting rapeseed oils culinary & nutritional benefits. It has the lowest saturated fat content of any cooking oil & is rich in Vitamin E, Vitamin K and Omega-3, 6 & 9. This also makes it a superb oil for external use as it supports repair, softens, increases elasticity & strengthens the skin as a whole.
Vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects & repairs your skin. Antioxidants are agents that neutralize the oxidant effect of free radicals, which are molecules that damage collagen & cause skin dryness, fine lines & wrinkles.
Applying Vitamin K to the skin improves elasticity & has been used to remove spider veins, bruises, scars, stretch marks, and burns. After surgery, vitamin K is used to speed up skin healing & reduce bruising and swelling.
Omega 3-6-9 in oil nurtures your skin & helps stimulate the skin’s natural process of renewal, while helping to restore its suppleness and elasticity. They support the skin’s natural ability to retain moisture and protect against free radical attack.
If your skin is soft, supple & healthy it can do its job more efficiently. Protect you from the environment you are exposed to & the pollutants your skin comes into contact with.
This is what makes Rapeseed Oil our first choice as a base for our 100% Natural Ingredient Salves at Gwen’s Garden.
